NEC finally released a new NEC 1300A - official Firmware 1.06 for their drives...

All to find out is support for
-Princo DVD-R 4x
-MPO DVD+R 2.4x

The update procedure seems to be done from windows, which could cause a potential crash and damage of the drive I fear... I guess that Herrie is currently analyzing this firmware...

Hi!
Since you are hacking this firmware, is there a chance to enable correct emf encoding to also copy weak bit patterns?

Thanks!
Chris

Chris, I am sorry, the hacking is actually done by a dude called Herrie (see other NEC postings)... I would suggest to give the forum.rpc1.org a visit... if you not already did.

But from what I learned Herrie only enables additional DVD media (that of course have NOT been tested by NEC positively) via patching some media-codes in the firmware.

Please keep me informed.

Hi Christoph!
I asked Herrie about emf encoding, he says, as you stated, that he doesn't have clues about how to fix this.
Anyway, his fixes are quite enjoyable.

I just wanted to know if emf encoding is possible to fix because I always make one copy of games I buy so that the original CD doesnt get scratches -works quite well for me :)

Chris,

If you are only longing for a very good CD duplicator for Clone-CD I recommend getting one of the top-drives of Plextor.

The DVD-Writer's addon to also create CD-RW is a nice "sell-me" feature, but not as dedicated as in CD-Writers I guess...
